80s Jams #56: Hüsker Dü "Celebrated Summer" (1985)

"Celebrated Summer" is a prime example of Hüsker Dü's unique ability to effectively combine wistful, even tender moments with the hardest elements of rock & roll. Certainly the song is a step toward the mainstream -- unflinchingly melodic and well-produced -- but it never compromises the passionate spirit of the band nor the ferocious energy that fuels them. The song's arrangement has a beautiful, aching quality, most evident in the sprawling, open guitar chords that are played through warm, yet powerful distortion. -- http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=33:3nftxq9sldae
