[BONUS] The most disappointing unearthed relic from 2016 was probably Big Star's cover of T.Rex's "Baby Strange" which appeared on Big Star: Complete Third. When the tracklisting was announced with "Baby Strange," we had reasonably high expectations. Now we know better. The first 45 seconds of the track are silent and the rest doesn't sound as if they cared. IMO a lot of Complete Third shouldn't have been included on there, and this is a good example.

Siamese Dream reissue

The vinyl reissue of Siamese Dream coming in a few weeks will NOT be released as a 1-LP set as erroneously reported by Pitchfork... BASTARDS. It's a fucking 62 minute album. You can't fit that onto 1 record?? And if that's not possible, then at least fill fit it onto 3 sides, 20 minutes a side, and throw some bonus tracks onto side four. It's not that hard to do, people. Back in 1988 when they were starting to push CD's, they threw bonus tracks onto the end of records like they were fucking giving them away for free.

I remember receiving Michael Jackson Bad on CD as a gift and thinking I was cooler than my friends who only had the cassette version which didn't include "Leave Me Alone." Why can't they do this with vinyl?!? I would have gladly bought Siamese Dream a second time if this were the case. Sorry Corgan, you lost yourself a customer.

i just paid for music

I've been doing this weird thing lately where I'm actually paying for music.. on vinyl.. Because vinyl and mp3's are the only 2 formats that make any sense at all. And mp3's are free. And I wanted to purchase "Goblin" because Tyler fucking deserves it. And I wanted to own the Ringo Deathstarr album (out on Tuesday) because they fucking deserve it. No regrets here.

P.S. Record Store Day is in a month or so.. They're re-releasing Hormoaning, which is something I probably would not buy unless it was like $6 (which is only fair.. 1 dollar per song... unless there's bonus tracks I guess..) And it will def be like $15 so fuck that.

Foo Fighters and Deftones are both releasing albums called "Covers" with all or most of their studio covers.. which would be a much better idea for a Nirvana release than re-releasing Hormoaning. I do feel bad for the kids in like October of 1992 who were like "holy fucking shit, Nirvana covered DEVO??" and then spent like $50 to hear a song that they could have heard on Incesticide for $12 only 2 months later.

Hm.. I assumed there'd be more cool stuff to search for... But I do know the new Beak> song is being released on vinyl today also.. which is probably in my 5 favorite songs of 2010 so far. It's called "Wulfstan" and you can stream it at Beak>'s myspace. And hey, lookit that.. Beak> is actually appearing at some record store in the UK tomorrow in celebration.
