After various setbacks, Dead Wives has finally posted the first volume of a planned trilogy of demo releases recorded with guidance from the elusive Lip Keebler. Released about 3 weeks ago, Buzzy Fuzzy should be followed next year by Satan Smile and Wish Upon a Pentagram. (Despite the interpretations of songs from Ween and Nicki Minaj, the other two releases will likely not include cover songs.) The song sequence of Buzzy Fuzzy loosely follows a thematic progression built around a swarm of bees that reproduces to an absurdly large size after becoming possessed by Satan.

"T.Scene releases" has been slowing down since the 2nd half of 2012. However, tentative t.scene plans have been announced for 2013, currently including Lowt Ide's long-awaited LP Tag Sale, the compilation cassette Slut Life 2, and a digital boxed-set of covers from the elusive Lip Keebler.

As for Dead Wives, the official follow-up to their 2011 EP Scuz Bucket is promised for Spring 2013. In the meantime, a new demo collection has been posted under the name "Lip Keebler's Dead Wives," suggesting this as some type of collaborative project. "Bitch We Deep" has been re-recorded after previously appearing on 2011's The Crack Game, an LP-length demo collection that has since vanished from the internet (aside from a few stray leftovers on Soundcloud). Yo Lip is currently available for stream on Bandcamp...

Only related due to a coincidentally similar band name, Dream Husbands' debut EP was posted in mid-February. They are the newest project from the same gents who recorded two outstanding LP's as The Smooth Hands. Hunky Husbands includes many of the same recording aesthetics but with a new direction, a logical progression from The Smooth Hands' initial adventures. Their first collection of songs is also currently available for stream on Bandcamp...

T.Scene Newsletter: March 2012

Our SLUT LIFE cassette-comp is complete and has started making the rounds. A few of the artists on this tape have been psyched & generous enough to dub additional copies and spread the love! So it's likely that this tape will stretch beyond the initial run of 60 copies. If all goes well, it should be available to stream online at some point, with a "Side A" stream and a "Side B" stream so that the track order stays intact, and so those who weren't able to receive a copy can still listen in their cars with a Bandcamp phone app or by downloading SideA.mp3 and SideB.mp3. Here's one of our special correspondents being lame and showing off the goods...



In addition to this, T.Scene has begun a temporary cassette-label of sorts... The first four releases have been announced as the following:

In addition to a shit-ton of shows, SPEEDY ORTIZ have also finished recording Sports EP which is due for release in late-May on Exploding In Sound Records. EIS posted a press release on March 12, while Speedy themselves released a digital-single a week prior:


The "Taylor Swift" single was met with mild controversy due to alleged "trademark infringement," but as the saying goes, any press is good press... And the single has continued making the rounds on the blog-circuit, detailed at Speedy's official Livejournal page.

HUGE NEWS from LOWT IDE has arrived with the completely unexpected announcement that they have actually finished their 5th album after 3 years of on-and-off recording. While it's currently still in the mastering stages, the half-band/half-social-experiment maintains that Tag Sale, due for release on April 9th, was allegedly produced by an Al-Qaeda leader and will include 19 new songs. More info on this coming soon. In the meantime, we forgot to announce in our February newsletter that they also uploaded their 2009 album The CEO's Collection onto Bandcamp:


No official word from DEAD WIVES regarding any recording or forthcoming shows, although their live EP ended up actually happening... The idea was in limbo for a while, but it's been released on their Soundcloud page, suggesting this as another "demo" release...

T.Scene Newsletter: Feb 2012

Time for our monthly t-scene newsletter... Our top stories at this hour, covering the news of 1/23/12 through 2/23/12:

The news we're most excited for right now is the announcement of our first NEW COMPILATION release in nearly 10 YEARS.

Over the past 2 years, Taste My Kids has been posting various T.Scene releases on mediafire, mostly comps of re-packaged material, as well as newer releases from Ovlov, Dead Wives and Quilty. However, for the first time since Trumbull Scene Volume 2 (compiled during the summer of 2002), a new actual physical release is coming to fruition.

Its title is SLUT LIFE, and its line-up of artists is currently set to include JEFF PECK, GRAPH, POOLS ARE NICE, TWO INCH ASTRONAUT, THE SMOOTH HANDS, LORD CANTI (featuring ex-members of OVLOV), ELVES, JAMIE FOUND OUT, NATIVE MODE, SPEEDY ORTIZ, DOWCET, DEAD WIVES, LOWT IDE and a few more artists that are currently unconfirmed. It's initially set to be a cassette-only release (with no initial digital release on Bandcamp or other various forums).

As of right now, we can only guarantee that Slut Life will be available at the shows of all the bands who appear on it. More information, including a full tracklisting and artwork should be available here in our next T.Scene Newsletter. Now officially a 4-piece band, SPEEDY ORTIZ continued their reign of terror with a couple weekend-long mini-tours in early February. A few more of these should continue throughout the remainder of February and March as they prepare for Sports EP, their first official release as a full-band and the follow-up to The Death Of Speedy Ortiz from late last year. To help promote their forthcoming shows and Sports EP, Speedy launched a livejournal account as their first official website a few days ago. Recording is scheduled to begin in mid-March. The 8th annual BERFEST - held throughout the last weekend of Jan 2012 - was a huge success once again, with its sold-out 2nd night in Boston (on January 28th) meeting expectations as one of the best shows of 2012 so far, including a strong headlining set from PILE, a set comprised of nearly all-new material from GRASS IS GREEN, a farewell-set from OVLOV with first-time appearances from two covers (Dinosaur Jr's "Feel The Pain" and CKY's "To All Of You"), and brilliant opening sets from Boston favorites FAT HISTORY MONTH and SCOUTER.

However, the slightly-less-publicized 1st and 3rd nights of BERFEST were surprisingly just as eventful. The Sunday-show in Danbury included the next in a series of reunion sets from HOME MOVIES, as well as the debut performance from NATIVE MODE, a new project featuring ex-members of THANK YOU MR. KEATING who had previously performed in a few various shows to support their last LP The Baxter Special (one of our favorite unsigned albums of 2010).

HOVERAL's reunion set at Berfest was also full of surprises, with the set list including 2 Smooth Hands songs, a Bernie song, and - probably the biggest surprises of all - a NEW Hoveral song, tentatively titled on their setlist as "Why Bother." No comment from Hoveral regarding this signaling the band reforming in a more permanent setting, but the set is available in full on Youtube for anyone who missed it. Various news from DEAD WIVES was announced throughout February:

On February 1st, a new remixed version of their compilation Crud (originally released in October 2011) was uploaded to their Bandcamp page, marking their 2nd official release...

On February 8th, they announced on their facebook page that Crud would also be available on cassette, alongside another cassette-only split-release with LOWT IDE. The split-release is titled Alanis More-Cassette / Jomo Coffin. Both will be available at a series of Dead Wives shows planned for late-April and throughout May of 2012.

Plans for a Dead Wives Live EP has been scrapped. Instead, they have begun preparing the official follow-up to 2011's Scuz Bucket EP, which should be finished in time for their shows in April and May. More info on this coming soon.

No huge news from Lowt Ide at the moment, although they have been continuing recording of their long-awaited 5th LP Tag Sale, with one new song appearing soon on the Slut Life comp.

The long-delayed sixth and latest installment of Dead Wives’ series of demo tapes is now available for anyone who’s interested, streaming on Soundcloud or from Mediafire download.

As stated when Demon Priest was posted, “these are mostly just about trying out new ideas and seeing what works.” So please don’t call this “the new album,” because it’s not. It’s just a demo collection.

Also important: Previous demos such as “Milk and Water” or “The Chocolate Factory” excluded many songs, some of which were later re-added as bonus tracks. However, “The Crack Game” marks a new era of “quantity over quality” demos for Dead Wives. (So just a warning.. Normally, tracks 8 through 13 would not have been included here... Also 12 and 13 are only available on Mediafire.)

Everything was recorded with a single microphone (for two reasons: #1 some effort was made to recreate the "basement band practice" atmosphere, and #2 due to lack of resources). As a consequence, this might have the lowest production value out of any Dead Wives demo so far (which means it’s pretty bad).

As previously noted on their Facebook profile, there’s a few more “guitar solos” than usual. In more than one case, this clever tactic was used to make up for a lack of “actual songs.”

“Girl Cursive” (a circa-2005 relic) and “Jello Stars” are probably their two most melodramatic “emo” songs so far. They’re also both difficult to sing, and for whatever reason, the decision was made to NOT double-track. So both songs ended up with embarrassingly weaker-than-usual vox. Whatever.

The drums on “Pinhead” were borrowed from Hoveral’s “User Friendly” and from Bernie’s “Kill Your Parents.”

We actually had requests for more Dead Wives, which was unexpected and nice. Out of the 4 that have yet to be uploaded, Hellrazor is probably the demo tape I'd be least embarrassed to post here, even though the mix is really bad and the vocals are kinda not that impressive as they were recorded entirely in one take at 4AM on a random Thursday morning back when my work hours were 2:30PM to 11PM .. which I actually had some odd nostalgia for recently..

Dead Wives will never perform "Capitol Hill" live even though I do really like the song.. It was supposed to sound like a combination of about 8 bands (The Modern Lovers and Interpol come to mind), but instead people told me they thought it sounded like Blink 182... ugh.

There were 3 versions of "Recycled." The first one sounds like Wire. The second one sounds like Franz Ferdinand. The third one sounds like Electric Wizard. The 2nd version is the only one that got finished (for better or worse).

"Blood" was an ongoing project since back in like 2003.. An 8-minute version was recorded for Milk And Water but wasn't included. At the time of recording, Phoenix had just recently performed "1901" and "Lisztomania" on Saturday Night Live, and so the original atmosphere of the song ended up getting changed... A regrettable decision, but whatever...

These were all recorded between March and April 2009, except for 12 and 13 were recorded at the end of May on a boring Saturday when I was missing my friends and feelin Yo La Tengo.. "Your Little Sailboat" is a Smooth Hands song (with an amazing video that probably isn't on Youtube) and "White People" is a Smile Democracy song. Both songs are so lovely and I felt like trying to make them sound like YLT... The singing is really quiet because I did it in my bedroom and I didn't want my roomies to hear.

My friend Dan and myself recorded "Good Suffering" on another boring Saturday in April... Someone left a cello in the band room, and we had access to a creepy sounding organ, so we tried to make the best of our surroundings... I don't think Dan liked it, but personally I think it sounds awesome.

Dead Wives' first ever "official" non-demo-tape release is finally finished and is currently streaming on Soundcloud. The songs are all re-recordings of older songs.. "Crash Landing" and "Wilt" (previously titled "Mild," "Melt," and "untitled") are originally from 2007's "Milk & Water" tape. "VHS" (previously titled "Move In") was originally found on 2009's "Hellrazor" tape, and "Don't Stop Bleeding" was first heard on last summer's "Demon Priest" demo. It was recorded between November and December 2010 by Mike Henss at Enox Productions in Newtown, CT.

Does this look like a real album blog yet? Am I fooling everyone nicely? So yes, here it is... The first ever album blog post for t.scene releases. Dead Wives last demo tape was called Hellrazor which, despite the name, was far less abrasive than Demon Priest. I'm not sure what else to say about it...

Dead Wives is currently searching for performance venues, since the band has never played a show. (Four shows were scheduled between late-May and mid-June of this year, but all had to be cancelled for one reason or another.)

I should probably mention here that I'm in the band Dead Wives, and I normally record the demo tapes on my own. If you're looking for a focus track from Demon Priest to start with, I might recommend "Don't Stop Bleeding," and for anyone who was wondering, yes the song title is a reference to Journey. "Good Suffering" is an excerpt from a 12- or 13-minute-long experimental tape, recorded in April or May of 2009 by my friend Dan and myself. The song title is a quote from the movie Hellraiser. "Action Park" was named after the park in New Jersey, which I was fortunate enough to experience without dying in the summer of 1995. Some of these songs may be performed live in the future, and some may not.. Collections such as these are mostly just about trying out new ideas and seeing what works.
